We led the visual direction and rollout for Mixed Emotions II, Abra Cadabra’s EP release,delivering the core artwork alongside a full suite of digital assets.

The project spanned cover art, animated motion for Spotify Canvas, and promotional banners across Spotify, YouTube, and social platforms. The aim was to create a striking, emotionally driven visual identity that could live seamlessly across both still and motion formats while supporting a major digital release.

The artwork centres on a fractured, ice-formed heart suspended against a dark, minimal background.

The heart is split into two distinct states: one side filled with deep red tones representing blood and emotional intensity, the other drained and frozen, symbolising numbness and emotional distance. Ice shards pierce through the heart from multiple angles, reinforcing the idea of pain, vulnerability, and internal conflict. This contrast visually captures the title Mixed Emotions, translating the themes of the EP into a single, instantly recognisable image.

Typography was kept sharp and understated, allowing the artwork to lead while ensuring clarity and impact across streaming platforms. The cold, restrained colour palette was deliberately chosen to heighten the emotional weight of the red tones and give the cover a stark, almost clinical feel.

Motion played a key role in extending the concept. For Spotify Canvas and social assets, the heart was animated so the blood slowly fills and drains while the ice shards subtly push in and out of the surface. This looping motion mirrors emotional fluctuation and adds a living, breathing quality to the artwork without overpowering the music. The same visual language was carried through banners and headers,maintaining consistency across all touchpoints.
